Salad Stuffed Pita’s, Buenas Noches Black bean soup and Day 9 of my lose 10 lbs in 20 days detox!

Today is day 9 of my Dr. Fuhrmans lose 10 lbs in 20 days Detox.

I’ve decided I want to change the name to “Dr. Fuhrmans lose 10 lbs in 20 days challenge.”

This doesn’t feel like a “detox.” It feels like a “challenge” to me.
Yes, I was on a whole foods, plant-based diet when I started, but I had to reduce my sodium, and sugar levels, so I expected to feel drained, dehydrated, hungry, and just awful. Instead, 9 days later, and my energy levels are going up and that’s a huge plus for someone with chronic fatigue.

Anyone coming from a the standard American diet, would most probably feel rough as you get used to it, but I would wager a bet that in a few days and you’d start to feel good.

On the other hand, each day I’m being challenged to try new recipes.
I exercise everyday now and I’m re-evaluating my unhealthy habits.

In some ways this feels like a marathon. I am running this race, suiting up, and facing my demons in the kitchen. I’m not as hungry as I used to be, I don’t crave foods like I used to, I’m not snacking all the time, so I am reaping the benefits even before I get to the finish line.

This is working out so well for me.

But I started thinking, why is loving ourselves so hard?
We give to others so freely, but we ignore our own basic needs.
When do we finally begin to make ourselves a priority?

When it comes to our food we don’t want to compromise.
We don’t want to give anything up.
But where there is test, there is testimony.
We can’t give others our experience, strength, and hope if we haven’t experienced life.
Without challenges, we won’t have anything to give away.

Then we get sick and run to the Dr.s expecting them to fix us.
They can’t always fix us.
Our lives are in our hands.
We have to take an active role in our health.
So many illnesses can be solved by making better decisions when it comes to what we put in our mouths.

All I know is I am eating delicious foods and starting to feel alive again.
I may be a pooper at parties. I may have to make accommodations, to make sure I get healthy foods when I go out, but I can’t go back after this detox. I feel too good to go back to the way I was eating. This has added a whole new level of health and nutrition for me.

Todays breakfast was a Chocolate Cherry smoothie, but I made my favorite Apple Pie oatmeal instead.

Lunch: The recipe for lunch was Salad Stuffed Pita.
I was a bit hesitant. So I’m putting my salad in pita bread, how boring is that?
Not boring at all!
Check this out.

Oh my gosh I loved this so much!
Tucked inside the whole grain pita pocket are Avocados, Onions, Tomatos, shredded Romaine Lettuce. The recipe tells you to add the Russian dressing from day 7, but I decided to mix together the remainder of the Walnut Vinaigrette, and Balsamic Almond Dressing, and put that on it.

It was so hearty, flavorful and filling. This reminded me of the hummus wrap on day 3. Next time I might add a little hummus for extra protein. I will definitely keep this in my recipe file.

Dinner tonight was: Buenas Noches Black Bean soup.
This was really easy to make. A one pot meal filled with flavor. This felt more like a chili than a soup. It was thick, robust, chunky, and hearty. I steamed 2 cups of broccoli and had it with the soup. So easy, so good, and so good for you.

Dessert Tonight was an orange, oh how I love my oranges.
Well that’s day 9, I am so proud of myself.

Thanks for stopping by, be good to yourselves,
